Beat The Heat

-Rageeb Juhair Nur

Imagine a hot summer day and the sun is piercing through your skin; the humid weather makes you sticky with sweat. A chilly drink is all we need to soothe our boiling insides. Oh! How snug it feels when we slurp on cold beverages at will, relieving ourselves from the scorching summer heat. It is certainly impossible to survive without one, but yet the lucky clover doesn't grow for everyone.

While thousands of families are living under the poverty line, the heat by no means helps their situation. Now that the pandemic is thrown into the mix, the situation just grows worse. Most day labourers are jobless, and the condition of the underprivileged in our country has deteriorated far more than we’ve ever witnessed, to the point where safe drinking water has become nothing less than a luxury for the deprived. This has given birth to one of the most important, yet unnoticed problems in our society; that is, dehydration. In an era so advanced, so futuristic, an era where dehydration should be the least of our concerns, it is disappointing to witness dehydration as a severe threat to society. Times like these are when we hope for a knight in shining armour, and luckily for us, the one who descended on the battlefield, shone like silver.

If it hasn’t been made apparent who we’re referring to, allow us to clarify. The teenagers in white, who are willing to offer their aid with a smile on their faces; the Silver Lining Organization. Silver Lining Organization, or ‘SLO’ has been operational since September of 2018, helping those in need and making sure their burdens are lifted, ever since. They are rapidly expanding with a noble team, to make bigger projects a reality. Their latest campaign, ‘Beat the Heat’ is another example of how their work is making an impact.

This campaign was one for the records, a truly remarkable work by the whole team. This entire operation took almost a month of planning, and the effort was worth it. As per their CEO, the volunteers distributed more than 500 bottles of the drink mix ‘Tang’, while other members played their roles in management, finance and announcements. Take it from us, this is exceptional work from teenagers who have still not even graduated high school! The SLO team was very satisfied, as their endeavour was achieved when the faces of the labourers lit up with happiness while they were being served with the beverages. It's times like these when its imminent kindness is still humanity's greatest strength.
